About the North Carolina Geographic Alliance

Since 1987, the North Carolina Geographic Alliance has sought to enhance geographic education in North Carolina schools. Over the years the NCGA has produced teaching materials, provided professional development, and advocated for geography as an integral part of the curriculum.

Announcements

North Carolina Giant Traveling Map -  The National Geographic Society has created a giant map for all 50 states. NCGA teacher consultants are developing materials and lesson plans to accompany the North Carolina Giant Map. A rollout of the map and materials will be at the North Carolina Council for the Social Studies meeting, March 2 and 3, 2017.

Professional Development for Teachers

Professional development about geography is available to teachers from a variety of sources, including the North Carolina Geographic Alliance. Professional organizations provide workshops, conference sessions, and materials that help teachers develop knowledge and skills about geography and instructional practice.

Teaching Resources

Teacher Consultants for the North Carolina Geographic Alliance have developed numerous materials over the years. These materials have focused on many topics, grade levels, geographic skills, and regions.
