Outreach

The NCGA has a Public Awareness and Outreach Committee that plans and carries out programs that raise awareness of geo-literacy for teachers and the public at large.  By partnering with National Geographic Education, UNC World View, and the North Carolina Council for the Social Studies, along with other organizations, the NCGA is able to promote geo-literacy across the state. Several outreach initiatives are listed below.

World View

World View, established in 1998 by The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, helps K-12 schools, community colleges, and four-year colleges prepare students to succeed in an interconnected, diverse, and multicultural world.  The NCGA has conducted workshop sessions and sponsored a display table at World View’s Fall Symposium and Spring Seminars.

North Carolina Council for the Social Studies

The annual meeting of the North Carolina Council for th Social Studies (NCCSS) serves as a primary outreach activity for the the North Carolina Geographic Alliance (NCGA). The NCGA supports a Giant Traveling Map at the conference and provides multiple session presentations.
