Equipment rentals are for department faculty, staff, graduate students, and majors. Available equipment includes a digital camera, a video camera, a projector, a recorder, a laptop, a tablet, and multiple GPS units (Garmin, Trimble).
The equipment is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations can be made up to three weeks in advance from the desired check-out date. The maximum check-out period is three days. Any check-out for a longer period of time must have formal, written approval from the GIS Lab Supervisor.

ESRI products are freely available to current faculty, staff, and students of Appalachian State University. There are two options for installing ArcGIS:
- Install the software - ArcGIS Desktop 10.7 (link to installer), ArcGIS Pro 2.5 (link to installer), or ESRI City Engine 2020 (link to installer). Next, request a license by completing the ESRI License Webform. Note: This webform is also for requesting license renewals.
- Take your computer to the Computer Support Center (Anne Belk Hall) to have the software installed for you.
