Appalachian Geographical Society (AGS) is a student-run, university-recognized organization consisting of majors and non-majors who are interested in learning more about geography through fellowship. AGS kicks off each academic year with an interest meeting and closes each academic year with a picnic at Horn in the West. Throughout the year, AGS executive board members identify ways for the organization to participate in department and community activities. The Watauga River Clean-Up and Appalachian Earth Day Celebration are two events that bring the organization together each year. Other examples of activities include hikes, road clean-ups, orienteering expeditions, and stargazing parties.
AGS meets once per month in Rankin Science West 349. Meeting activities include faculty speakers, professional development, and department updates. Notifications about upcoming meetings are emailed to members and posted on social media. Meeting dates are subject to change due to inclement weather.
